Brightspeed Cable Cleanup: Carova, N. Swan and Swan

During the recent Behind the Dune Beach Sweep, NBPA volunteers gathered a mound of loose Brightspeed cable from the sand roads in Carova, North Swan, and Swan. Black, yellow, and cream cables continue to litter the roads and snake through the grass, with many broken pieces still partially buried. The recent fiber installation has added to the existing debris.

With the Lambert cable installation group having completed its work on our portion of the beach weeks ago, NBPA reached out to Brightspeed to ask who is responsible for the cleanup.

Scott Strader, Senior Engineer Outside Plant and Construction, for Brightspeed, reviewed photos of the debris and met in Carova with representatives from NBPA, North Swan Property Owners Association, Swan Property Owners Association, and the Carova Service District. The group walked a short stretch of road so he could see the broken cables and exposed wires firsthand.

Mr. Strader assured the group that none of the lines remaining on the surface are live. The new fiber being connected to customers in Carova and North Swan is buried approximately three feet under the sand in bright orange casing. He also asked the associations to stay in contact and said he will work with them to ensure the leftover cable is gathered. Fiber installation is expected to begin in Swan soon.
