Commissioners Review North Beach Topics
The August 17 meeting of the Currituck County Board of Commissioners covered several topics related to North Beach, including the proposed purchase of five parcels of land in the off-road area at MP14 and the Carova Roads Maintenance Service District.
Sam Walker of OBX News posted a summary here. We also encourage you to watch the Currituck Commissioners meeting video. To view specific discussions, use the links within the agenda. The land purchase proposal is discussed under New Business and again as part of the Tourism Development Authority (TDA) budget amendments, including authorization for the use of occupancy tax funds. Commissioner Angell noted that the proposed land purchase furthers goals outlined in the 2040 Imagine Currituck Vision Plan.
Another agenda item involved the appointment of a new board member to the Carova Roads Maintenance Service District. This led to a broader discussion about the district's charter, recent flooding issues, and funding. That discussion can also be viewed using the links in the agenda.
In May 2026, NBPA published an overview of the Carova Service District, including its membership and scope, in an article entitled On the Road Again. We plan to expand on this topic in future editions.
NBPA will continue to follow these issues and provide updates, along with other relevant news affecting our community. We will also share the results of the beach access survey. In the meantime, if you missed it, be sure to check out our North Beach by the Numbers post, which includes a link to the NC State 4x4 Traffic and Economic Study.
